About the Project
It is often said that there is a disconnect between The City of Ypsilanti and Eastern Michigan University, so we wanted to give an opportunity for both students and residents to have a discussion with one another in a new, creative way.
We were inspired by several projects by Candy Chang, an artist, designer, and urban planner. Her two most known projects "I wish this was" and "Before I die.." have been widely successful across the world. We wanted to apply this same spirit to the city and school that we love. With the help of our Professor Dr. Nina David, we applied for a grant through Academic Service Learning(ASL) of Eastern Michigan University and were awarded $316.00. This grant supplied the funds and spirit to tackle this project full force. After many hours and several trips to Home Depot, we ended up with 3 exhibits. Two 4x8 boards and 500 interactive postcards. In the News
